Revelation of God

In the beginning God…
Genesis 1:1

Revelation of God

The first statement God made in His revelation to man is …..in the beginning, God.. yet for many generations questions have been raised on the existence of God. Is there a God..?  How can we know..?  Can it be proved..?  What is the evidence..? But God IS – for God revealed Himself. God unveiled Himself in His Word - through His names, His character and His truth – and we are to believe what God has said.

Statements of God

God does not seek to prove that He exists. He plainly states, I AM that I AM, and God simply says, I AM the first and I AM the last; apart from Me there is no God. No scientific experiment can prove His existence, but we see general revelation in the world around us, for the heavens declare the glory of God. And we also have direct, specific, and detailed revelation in the Scriptures – the inerrant Word of God. He simply states I AM that I AM. I Am the LORD your God, Who brought you out of Egypt. I AM the LORD your God, Who teaches you what is best for you and Who directs you in the way. I AM the LORD your God, and there is no other.

Word of God

It was Plato that said – if we had a word from God, that is what we would hang on to, but since we don’t – we have to hang on to the best opinions of man! But the best opinions of man are foolishness to God. Oh! the foolishness of proud man!! for Scripture tells us that we do have a Word from God… to hang on to. But how few really read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest God’s Word? How few really trust His Word? How few truly seek to know God, and all that He has revealed about Himself directly through His Word?

Unveiling of God

David’s simple statement says it all… it is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes. It is better to take refuge in God than to place our trust in man. We have a revelation about God which unveils His character and purpose. And this revelation is from God, which reveals Who He is by means of His Word. And all that’s required of us is to know Him – believe Him and act on His Word, And in the Lord Jesus Christ we have the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Instructions from God

The wisdom of this world is foolishness with God, for who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him? And yet as believers, we have the mind of Christ. Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God – how unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out.. and yet this unfathomable God chose to reveal Himself to us through His Word, and even instructed us how we should live our lives as He intended – and He gave us one way.

Know  Believe  Live

And that One Way is the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ – God’s own living Word. The general principle is simply... know the Word, believe the Word, and live by the Word. 1) Know God’s Word – Gain knowledge, and develop a deep desire to know Him. 2) Believe God’s Word – Trust Him implicitly and believe the truth of His Word. 3) Live God’s Word – apply His Word daily to all you are and say and think and do.

Changeless Character

God gives us simple instructions and yet they are diametrically opposed to man’s logic and the sin nature, for our fleshly sin nature is in conflict against God’s Spirit and the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God, but if we don’t know His character and His plan for humanity, how can we trust Him? And what’s more important in life, than to know the Lord and to trust our God? – to know His changeless character – His qualities and all He communicates to us; to trust His Son Who died for us – Who loves us, and longs to be with us; to act in submission to His Spirit – Who guards and guides us; comforts and trains us.

Communication from God

What is more important in life than to know and trust God… Father, Son and Holy Spirit, for He is our God and we are His beloved children? What is so wonderful is that God communicated His plan to us and His plan for us? He caused men to pen the Scriptures, outlining His gracious character and His plan of Salvation. No wonder the Psalmist wrote, what is man that You are mindful of him?

Unknowable and Incomprehensible

And yet this awesome God wants a love relationship with those that believe in Him and He gave us a most amazing revelations of Himself – in and through His Word. God truly is unbelievably, eternally, fantastically great, and incomprehensible. Can we by searching find out God? NO!! And yet He chose to reveal Himself to those who believe in Christ Jesus.

Knowable and Intimate

And His Word reveals that this God is knowable – intimately. His Word reveals that He knows us – intimately. And His Word reveals that He desires a trusting love relationship with us. The evidence is all there for us in His creation and His Word. For 4000 years of history God gradually unveiled Himself to us, through His names, His character and His truth. All we have to do is to believe what He has revealed to us, by His grace.
