Man was a unique creation – created in the image and likeness of God. Man was created to rule and reign. He was made to have dominion. Man was created in the image and likeness of eternal God – but then man fell.. and so humanity now takes the image and likeness of fallen Adam – so what of us? What of those that are a new creation in Christ – where do you and I fit in?
Well, God had a plan to divide mankind into three distinct “creations”: Gentile, Jew, and the Church, and for 2000 years, from Adam to Israel, there was but one creation, the old creation in Adam – the Gentiles. Then God did a new thing. For the next 2000 years, there were to be two distinct creations - Gentile and Jew. The old creation in Adam is joined by the old creation in Jacob. Israel was created as a firstborn son of God from the loins of Jacob see Exodus 4:22. Israel was also an adoptive son of God see Isaiah 42:1
Then God did a new thing.. and for 2000 years there have been three district creations - Gentile, Jew, and the Church. The old creations in Adam and Jacob are joined by a new creation in Christ. For 2000 years the Gentiles alone were the creation through whom God worked. Adam chose to become sin for his bride, but God already had a plan. Adam passed on to his progeny the old sin nature that rages in every man, and Adam learned that blood must be spilled for redemption to be achieved, and God had a plan.
Abel and Cain exemplified two choices that man would be required to make - men that would trust and obey OR men of unbelief and disobedience. And examples of godliness and illustrations of rebellion are given for our learning. And through the seed of trusting Seth was passed the Seed of the woman. And then God did a new thin - for God had a plan. God chose a man from Adam’s race and created a new son – Israel.
Out of the old creation in Adam, He made an old creation in Jacob – Israel. Still with the old Adamic sin nature, God continued His purpose through Israel. He would use this old creation in Jacob to bring forth the Redeemer. He would use this old creation in Jacob to pen the Word of God. He would use this old creation in Jacob to bless all the families of the earth. And for 2000 years Israel alone was the creation through whom God worked. Adam, the man, was the first human ‘son’ of God – through whom He would work. Israel, the nation, was the next human ‘son’ of God – through whom He worked.
He would use the experience of Israel as an example for those that came after, and some Israelites chose to live godly and believe the Word of God, while other Israelites lived in unbelief and followed the ways of the pagan. And many names and examples of men of faith are recorded in Hebrews 11. These men of faith were exemplified by Abel; Enoch; Noah; Abraham; Jacob – and so the Seed of the woman was passed on and on.
The nation of Israel – the adopted son of God, was redeemed out of Egypt. All were under the blood of the Passover lamb and all passed through the Red Sea, but despite God’s leading and guiding, many chose the way of Cain. Many of the old creation in Jacob became rebellious men of flesh. How could that be? They were saved by the blood of the lamb – yet turning away from their Saviour. And for 2000 years this old creation in Jacob would be used as an example to us – saved men, yet choosing the path of unbelief and rebellion. And the division established at the beginning through Able and Cain continued.
Some chose the spiritual way but many chose the carnal route. Some became men of faith but many chose to be faithless. Some were recorded in Hebrews 11 but many lost their opportunity. Some looked for a future inheritance but many, like Esau, sold their birthright. And for 2000 years Israel alone was the creation through whom God worked.
But the Seed of the woman, Who’d been protected through centuries, was crucified - and as a nation, Israel rejected her Messiah and they sold their heavenly birthright. As one man, that old creation in Jacob rejected the only begotten Son of God. No wonder the Lord Jesus wept over the old creation in Jacob – Israel: O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which kill the prophets, and stone them that are sent out unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not! Matthew 23:37
And so Israel was set aside.. not forever, just for a season. And God did a new thing, for God had a plan, For the old creations in Adam and Jacob cannot thwart God's plan. Hallelujah! God raised His Seed and through Him and created a new creation in Christ – the Church. And for 2000 years the Church alone is the medium through whom God works. And for 2000 years the new man in Christ is the one through whom God works.
Adam a fallen man was a firstborn human son – through whom God worked. Israel the nation was a firstborn human son – through whom God worked. Christ, the perfect man, was God’s only begotten Son – through whom He would work. And Christ is the head of His body.. the Church – through whom He will work for the new man in Christ was to become the mystical body of the Lord Jesus Christ – until it is no longer I that lives but Christ – that lives in me.
The work through Israel was through the works of the Law – which failed. The work for the Church must be carried out in Christ – which cannot fail. The Spirit of God has laid out in the Word of God how to live the Christian life – not in the Law nor in the works of the flesh– but through Christ in us – Christ in you, the hope of glory.
But we must rightly divide the word of truth, and we must rightly divide the gospel of truth, and we must rightly divide the creations of God – and it’s all laid out in the word of God for those that have eyes to see. The kingdom of heaven, rejected by Israel has been set aside for 2000 years – and given to a nation producing the fruits of it, Matthew 21:43 The kingdom on earth – the millennial kingdom has been set aside for a season.. for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable Romans 11:29.
The Church is the nation bringing forth the fruit of the kingdom – through Christ, and the Word of God describes in detail the gospel of this coming glory of Christ – a kingdom when the perfect Man.. the second Adam will rule and reign – a kingdom when this third Son and last Man will rule with this chosen bride.
At last – Man will fulfil the destiny for which he was created – to rule and reign.. when Christ shall reign as King of kings and Lord of lords – when the earth shall be filled with the glory of God as the waters cover the sea. But we must rightly divide the word of truth, and we must rightly divide the gospel of truth, and we must rightly divide the creations of God – and is all laid out in the word of God for those that have an eye to see.
