Verse of the day — Hebrews 4:9

So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.

Open Windows by Austin Sparks

The Release of the Lord

I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won't have enough room to take it in! (Malachi 3:10 NLT)

There is very much prayer being made, and appeal being pressed for revival.... If the Spirit of God either ignores or transcends so much that marks the Christian system, and makes it all as though it counts for little, (and the Holy Spirit never compromises on what is vital and really of God), does it not mean that He calls for a reconsideration of very much that obtains? The days of the Church's greatest spiritual power and impact were days when ecclesiastical forms, architecture and ritual were nil, and the Lord Himself was everything.... To get away from the lesser things we need a mighty visitation of the Spirit of God; this, and this only, will do it. Most people agree to this, and we have heard very much said along this line. What has always perplexed us is that, while things of this kind have been so repeatedly and strongly stated, the implication seems never to have registered itself with sufficient strength as to result in practical adjustments. So, on the other hand, if we seriously faced the things which the Spirit of God has again and again ruled out when He has had His way, would not the way be opened for a more permanent high level of spiritual life, fullness, and effectiveness?

Is not reformation an essential part of revival? Does not the Lord call for certain drastic adjustments before He can "open the windows of heaven"? (Mal.3:10). Whenever and wherever, by a new revealing of Himself, His purpose and method, the Lord has secured those who have moved out on to the ground of Christ only, they have always had to meet a great and painful cost. Usually it has been their own brethren in Christ who have exacted it.... How difficult it is for organized Christianity to believe that anything very much of real value can go on without machinery, publicity, and all the framework of organized work! May it not be well to pause and consider whether God's mightiest and most fruitful works in nature and in grace are not done hiddenly, quietly, unobtrusively, and – in many cases – done before anyone knows about it? What of the resurrection of nature every Spring-time? The law of God's highest work is the biological, the law of Life; it is organic.

The fruit of the Spirit is love.

God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. § The love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. § To you who believe, He is precious. § We love Him because He first loved us. § The love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.

You yourselves are taught by God to love one another. § This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. § Above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.” § Walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

The-Lord-Is-My-Banner.

God is for us, who can be against us? § The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?

You have given a banner to those who fear You.

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Though an army may encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war may rise against me, in this I will be confident.

Now look, God Himself is with us as our head. § The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.

These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them.

Why do the nations rage, and the people plot a vain thing? … He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; the Lord shall hold them in derision. § Take counsel together, but it will come to nothing; speak the word, but it will not stand, for God is with us.

Sovereign Providence

In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of Him who worketh all things after the counsel of His own will" (Eph. 1:11).

Not only is God our Father not dead, but He is in eternal control of both life and death. He who is our very life is "the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom" (2 Tim. 4:1). The sovereignty of our God is not only universal, but also personal. What a source of heart rest!

"We find in Romans 8:28 a great marvel: All things work together for good to the believing lovers of God. This involves that billion billion control of God's providence - of the most infinitesimal things - to bring them about for good' to God's saints.

"When we reflect on the innumerable things' about us - forces seen and unseen of the mineral, vegetable, and animal worlds; on man at enmity with God; on Satan, and his principalities and powers, in deadly array; on the uncertainty and even treachery of those near and dear to us, and even of professing Christians, and of our own selves - which we cannot trust for a moment; upon our unredeemed bodies; upon our general complete helplessness in ourselves - then, to have God say, All things are working together for your good,' - reveals to us a Divine providence that is absolutely limitless." -W.R.N.

"There Is No Limit To God's Favor Toward Those In Christ." -W.R.N.

"All things are Thy servants" (Ps. 119:91, ASV).

The Undeviating Question

“Lovest thou Me?” John 21:17

Peter declares nothing now (cf. Matthew 26:33-35). Natural individuality professes and declares; the love of the personality is only discovered by the hurt of the question of Jesus Christ. Peter loved Jesus in a way in which any natural man loves a good man. This is a temperamental love; it may go deep into the individuality, but it does not touch the centre of the person. True love never professes anything. Jesus said - "Whoever shall confess Me before men," i.e., confess his love not merely  his words, in everything he does.

Unless we get hurt right out of every deception about ourselves, the word of God is not having its way with us. The word of God hurts as no sin can ever hurt, because sin blunts feeling. The question of the Lord intensifies feeling, until to be hurt by Jesus is the most exquisite hurt conceivable. It hurts not only in the natural way but in the profound personal way. The word of the Lord pierces even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, there is no deception left. There is no possibility of being sentimental with the Lord's question; you cannot say nice things when the Lord speaks directly to you, the hurt is too terrific. It is such a hurt that it stings every other concern out of account. There never can be any mistake about the hurt of the Lord's word when it comes to His child; but the point of the hurt is the great point of revelation.

God, My Truth (Study In God - All I Need-15)

Study - GOD, All I Need

Question of Truth

What is TRUTH? This was the piercing question that fell from the lips of Pilate and this question is the root of the inner, penetrative searchings, that are found deep within the heart of all humanity. For that which is not founded on the truth of the Word of God, fragments into a tissue and lies. That with is not rooted in the truth of the gospel of Christ, lies buried in a sea of distortion. Building our lives on anything other than truth, is to stand on shifting sand – for only truth from God will endure – while all lies and part-truths, distortions and falsities will be swept away.

Knowledge of Truth

Knowledge of the truth is no insignificant advantage, for it affects every facet of life. Understanding the truth affects the eternal soul of man.. through time and into eternity, for as the apostle Paul reminds us, no foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. How it must please the heart of God when believers can be described like Gauis – a man of truth. It was John who wrote his letter to Gauis saying, I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.

Distortions of Truth

Often, in a heart damaged by life’s traumas, the truth becomes distorted – even the truth of God becomes twisted and perverted through the influence of sin. The truth of the gracious Father-heart of God Who loves with an infinite love can sometimes become twisted. The truth of His Father-heart of love has at times become warped and distorted, as He is manipulated  into the image of a demanding brother; a scornful mother; an abusive father… as God’s love and His forgiveness – His promises and His precepts are twisted to blaspheme His holy character. Many will not face the truth that their view of God could be thus distorted. Some are unresponsive when help and guidance are offered in

God, My Helper (Study In God - All I Need-16)

Study - GOD, All I Need

Seeing then that we have a great High Priest, Who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession… for we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathise with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:14

All We Need

God in very truth is my Friend and my Comforter. He is in my Companion and Courage, my Joy and my Hope, My Defence and Defender – my Provider and  Benefactor. He is indeed my Anchor and Assurance, my Prophet, Priest and King. He Who is all in all is everything we need. He is the personification of all that we desire. And we do well to know Him in each of His glorious capacity. We do well to trust Him in totality, in the each of His multifaceted characteristics – for each is an exemplification of His Being – each is one glittering facet of His whole wonderful Person.

All I Need

Yes, the Lord is indeed our Helper and the Lord in one very special way is my own personal Helper. A Samaritan woman came and worshiped Him, saying, Lord, HELP me! The pleading father of a mute son cried, Lord have compassion on us and HELP us. The daddy of the demonised son wept, Lord, I believe; HELP my unbelief! The panicking disciples screamed in a sinking boat, Lord HELP us. Oh yes, the Lord responded with great compassion to all who sought Him out for help – and He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Our Helplessness

It is in often in the midst of our deepest need and in agony of spirit that we call on the Lord for help. It is in the anguish of our heart that we plead  ‘Help me Lord’ – for self and for others, help me –

A Privileged Intimacy

Jesus said:
Henceforth I call you not servants… I have called you friends.
John 15:15

It is given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 13:11

Ye are my friends, if ye do whatever I command you. Love as I have loved.
John 15:14

Many Religions, One God

There are many religions – but only one FAITH. There is only ONE God Who is faithful. There is only ONE God in Whom we can put our trust. There is only ONE God Who we can confidently love and be loved by. His ways are superior from the devised plans of man. His ways are unique and are disclosed to those that love Him. The one God Who is faithful can be reverently loved. He longs to draw men to Himself with His long, exquisite chords of love and He desires to woo His own into a privileged intimacy with Himself.

Intimacy With God

An intimacy like his relationship with Abraham the friend of God. An intimacy with one who trusted in His Word. Paul tells us that: Abraham’s faith was counted to him as righteousness. We are His bond-slaves, and yet He is not only looking for servants… for His dear desire for you, is not just in getting the job done. We are His children, who delight to do His bidding..  yet His yearning towards us is that we obey the Father’s commands. His desire towards you, plunges the depth of human understanding. His yearning toward you, is that you walk with Him in the cool of the day. His longing toward you, is to share the deep mysteries of His love.

Call of the Lord

He longs to tell you the precious thoughts of His heart… as He did with Abraham, Shall I tell Abraham that thing which IdoBut are we too busy to draw near in faith? Are we too fearful to open our ears – to hear His whispers of love? Happy is the one whom God chooses and draws into His counsel. Blessed in the one who responds

Don’t Be Anxious – He Cares

Trust His Will

The simple purpose of the believer is to be in God’s will, and to trust in His love for He cares for you. To be in God’s will is to apply His will to your times and your circumstances.. to allow Him to align your will to His will. To apply His will to your times is His responsibility – not mine and not yours. To apply His will to your circumstances is to trust Him – to trust in His love. He will not fail thee. He will not forsake thee. He will choose for you and for me our place of service – our places of rest. He will direct our steps; supply our needs; point out our way. We will hear His voice whisper in our ear -“this is the way, walk in it.”

Hear His Voice

He will mark out our stops and cause us to rest beside still waters. He will call us aside into a quiet place, and cause us to rest a while. Jesus said to His disciples: Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while for there were many comings and goings, and they had no leisure so much as to eat. He will not leave us forever in the valley of darkness. He will not permit us to remain continually.. in the shadow of destruction. He will restore your soul and He will refresh my heart. He will heal your heart and He will comfort my soul.

Follow His Lead

He will guide our footsteps and protect our paths. He will open for us a door of hope in Valley of Achor, and bring us from the desolate place into the promised land: Beulah.. for the Lord delights in His children. We will be a crown of glory in the hand of our Lord, and a royal diadem in the palm of our God. And He will call us Hephzibah.. for the Lord delights in His children

Hear His Word

And so we may quietly and confidently commit ourselves into His hands.
