The only safe one is Christ, and therefore the only one who stands in God eyes is Christ, and it is as you and I, in all the brokenness, frailty, conscious weakness and humility of our own beings, by faith cling to Christ that we shall find the way out, the deliverance, the salvation.
Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but to Your name give glory. § Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? § In lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. § Be clothed with humility.[Jesus] was transfigured before them.
Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins. § Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart. § Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. § Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another. § Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”We then who are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak, and not to please ourselves.
Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.” § And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, long-suffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. § Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you.The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.”
And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.” § Be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who … made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men … Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow. Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those who turn many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever.
But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses. § As the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another.“Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him?
Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God.Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Resting in His glory there will manifest His humility in us here.
Our hearts have such a tendency to turn back to legalism, and to think it humility.
Many think that talking badly of ourselves is the ideal of humility; whereas the simplest and more real humility is to feel unaffectedly that we are too bad to be worth talking about.
When we are conscious of pride we fancy that humility will meet our need, but the answer to pride is not humility, it is the Lord Jesus, and He is the answer to every need.
The Father will not give you humility or patience or love as separate gifts of grace; He has given you the Lord Jesus, and if you simply trust Him to live out His life in you, He will be humble, patient, loving and everything else you need.
Channels of Blessing
And He uses you and He uses me to be channels of blessing, through whom His living waters may flow, if we, in deep humility, will empty ourselves of king self; if we, in self-brokenness, will invite Him to reign as supreme ruler in our lives.
When there’s unrestricted, unimpaired 'Heart to heart' communication… when there is 'Soul to soul' fellowship …between His Spirit and ours… when a servant of God is willingly brought to an end of himself -willingly then the heart can cry in deep humility of spirit, I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees You… Job.42:5
Link With Humility
Wisdom does not only come in words from God but in works of God, for all your work carried out in the Spirit of God – is the wisdom of God in you.
Godly wisdom and reason is closely allied to humility and child-likeness - a willingness to learn and a childlike faith and trust in the steadfastness of God.
God’s Purpose In Christ
There is no 12-step program that can effect this transformation – only a life of humility, submitted to the leading of the Holy Spirit..
The one, can incubate pride while the other can foster independence from God. And both result in a believer being removed from God’s best purpose in their life. But God can correct many decades of dormant growth in a stunted Christian life, and God can reverse the worldly ways of a saint’s fleshly independence from Him… if the believer changes his mind, and looks to Jesus and away from all else… if the repentant believer approaches His majesty in genuine humility of heart.. if the man or woman of God sincerely recognises his own lack and need of God.
but God can correct decades of dormant growth and fleshly independence, in the one that seeks Him with a surrendered heart of genuine humility.
Fruit of Humility
Humble yourself under the mighty hand the Lord, like the little maid of Nazareth, for the meek also shall increase their joy in the LORD. Rejoice in the Lord always.
Chosen by God
The eyes of the Lord had been upon the young Mary for many a year, for she was called and chosen to be His special vessel for His Unique Son. The righteousness of this woman had not gone unnoticed before the Lord, for the eyes of Mary had been upon the Lord for many a year during her short life. Her devotion to God dictated an equal devotion to the Son of His love. Her poverty and lowly state were no barrier to the Lord, for her delight was in the Lord. Indeed, her humility of heart and modest estate was what attracted His attention: for who can find a virtuous woman?
Place of HumilityHumility was her inner clothing.
Consider the Lord washing YOUR feet. Consider Humility.
Honour and Awe
One by one those beloved and delighted in by God, fell at His feet in honour and awe. Abraham bowed low and stretched himself to the ground before the Lord. Isaiah was deeply undone for he had unclean lips, living in an unclean world. Daniel, with his face to the ground in reverence and awe lost his physical strength. Proud Paul fell to the ground trembling and was brought to the brink of humility. The beloved John beholding the Alpha and the Omega – fell at His feet as if dead.
Impossible Burden
This is the most difficult of all tasks for the insatiably curious human mind. It is an impossible burden for the one that declares “give me proof and I’ll believe”. It is always hard for prideful man to admit there are things we don’t understand, but it needs deep humility, founded on faith to admit that we’ll never understand.
Beware – Consider
Beware of false doctrine – wolves that come to you in sheep’s clothing. Recognise the increase of the doctrines of demons prevalent in the church today. Magnify the Lord with me and let us exult His name together. Consider humility.
Truth of God
Recently as I ‘happened’ across this short video. In it there are 0ne hundred names of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. One Hundred examples of the truth of Who God undeniably is. If we were to take just ONE name each day and prayerfully focus on that truth… if we were to reflect on ONE attribute daily – in gratitude, honour praise and thanksgiving… if we were to meditate on ONE characteristic each day – in deepest humility of heart, I believe any and all of our distortions would be replaced with a deeper knowledge and understanding of Him.
A Bended Heart
Intercession begins on bended heart and yet it reaches to the throne of God, and a clean heart of humility is the inner garment every intercessor must wear.
Pray with Understanding
Teach me to pray the effective and effectual prayers of a righteous man – and cover me in Your garment of righteousness – trimmed with humility.
As we read through Scripture, we discover one here and we find another there… But in the fulness of time God sent His only Son in the form of man, in Whom would dwell all the godly attributes of Deity bodily – for He is the ultimate Man of faith and virtue, the perfect Man of prayer and praise, the godly Man of wisdom and worship, the loving Man of obedience and humility, the gracious Man so beloved of the Father, Who was chosen to be our Saviour for He is the true Man after God’s own heart.
What great examples of humility and obedience can be found in this little scene.
Insignificant Arrival
Christ’s own humility can be witnessed in His insignificant arrival on earth for He emptied Himself of the eternal glory He shared with the Father and came to earth as a helpless babe with nowhere to lay His head but a feeding trough in a borrowed cave. The shepherds instant obedience to the angelic message can be identified through the haste with which they sped to Bethlehem, to see the thing that had come to pass. But the gospel was not for them only – but a message of hope and joy to all people.
“O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come”, were his caustic words of contempt. But one day, this greatest of all prophets, who had baptised many (who in poverty of spirit had repented of their sins), was suddenly overwhelmed by the grossness of his own wickedness when the Lord Jesus walked into the water – to be baptised by John. It was in abject humility of heart and wretched bitterness of spirit that John must have whispered, “It is I who need to be baptised by You – how can You come to me?”
It is an impossible burden on the one that declares 'give me proof before I’ll believe'. It is always hard for prideful man to admit there are things we don’t understand, but it needs humility of heart, founded on faith to admit that we’ll never fully understand.
Succinct Outline
Metcalf gives a succinct outline of the problem and the solution – he writes:- The modern teaching of consecration, which is tantamount to the consecration of the ‘old man,’ seeks to bypass the death sentence and, and therefore, only leads to frustration and failure. When, however, you and I are prepared, in simple humility, to make the FACT of our death with Christ our daily basis of life and service, there is nothing that can prevent the uprising and outflow of the new life in Christ, and meet the need of thirsty souls around us.
Worthy of our Calling
We are to exercise the gifts God has given to each of us in the place He has put us. We are to minister to one another, edifying each other and speaking the truth in love. We are to walk in a manner that is worthy of the calling with which we are called, with all humility, gentleness, patience, and tolerance for one another – in love. And this will keep us from being tossed about by every wind of doctrine.
in humility of heart and in submission to the Spirit of God.
May we continue to build and be built, until we all come to unity in the faith. May we be fitly framed together – speaking the truth in love as we grow in grace. May we walk in humility and gentleness, patience and love.
Humility of Christ
John lets us know Christ’s inner yearnings at the well in Samaria.
John 4:34 While Paul attempts to describe the humility of our great God and Saviour, Who being found in human form, humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Trusting Humility
A godly life rests in God’s sovereign grace and eternal power to perform all He says. It is rooted in obedience to God’s will and is founded on a spirit of trusting humility.
Christ-Centred
Godliness and humility, obedience, love, and trust in God are supremely intertwined.
Be clothed with humility - for God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble. 1 Peter 5:5
But how the Lord Jesus demonstrated this grace of humility through His earthly ministry - Even from His lowly stable birth; His status as a refugee in Egypt; His gracious attitude towards His earthly parents; His long years of hard toil in a common, little carpentry shop.
Learned Humility
How the poor, ridiculed, betrayed, and rejected Lord Jesus was meek and lowly.
How the Lord Jesus learned humility through every facet of His wonderful life – a life that demonstrates the glorious truths of humility.
Lonely Road
Should not we, who seek to know Him more and more, follow in His path - HIS path of humility; HIS walk of suffering; HIS trail of rejections and pain? Should we not submit to the penetrating eye of the Holy Spirit in our life - asking Him to identify pride and self-interest, that so readily tracks our earthy walk? Should we not seek Him, where He is found – on the lonely Road of Humility? Should not we seek to cover ourselves with humility as Jesus did – covered with the cloak of humility; clothed with the garment of grace.
It is even so with our humility.
It is easy to think ourselves humble before God… and yet humility towards men, will be insufficient proof that our humility before God is real.
Christlikeness
Christlikeness is the only proof that humility has taken up its abode in us.
Lowliness of heart must become our very disposition and discipline. Humility of heart – not only as we think of Him or when we pray, but humility of heart must become the very spirit of our lives.
Humility Manifested
Humility will manifest itself in our thoughts and behaviours, toward our fellow man.
Clothe Yourself
I’ve noticed in many, including myself, this lack of true humility.
When did we become so unwilling to share the truth, and to receive it in love from dear friends, who desire our safety and benefit? Be clothed with humility, for God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble.
but also a life dedicated to Him; a life submitted completely to Him and His will; a life of total consecration to Him; a life that produces purity of heart and holiness of life; a life, utterly in love with the Son of His love; a life that kneels at His feet in brokenness of spirit; a life that washes His feet in humility of heart – a life that can say without reservation:
Galatians 6:2 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves.
Humility of Christ
He asked not that they served Him, but that He served them. So He washed His disciples' feet, demonstrating that the Servant of all is the Chief of all. Jesus went about doing good – that’s all – just doing good.
Paul tells us in Colossians 3.12 therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies; kindness; humility; meekness; long-suffering.
Fires of Suffering
If the understanding love of the Lord is to be shed abroad through your mean life; if you long for patience of spirit and humility of heart, you must needs be tried in the fires of suffering.
God-guided Lesson
He will speak to your heart; He will shape your thoughts; He will direct your path– as in humility and faith you follow the best way. Thus you will not be continually directed by circumstances..
How can I replace the scourge of pride with the depth of humility?
How can I clothe myself with humility and love – the inner garments that Christ seeks in each of His own?
Personification of Humility
We need to concentrate on Christ Who was the personification of humility. We need to centre on Christ – Who washed his disciples' feet.
Pride versus Humility
As Pride elevates Self, so humility looks away from self and gazes on Jesus.
As Soul raises Self to the exalted position, so humility kneels in reverence at His feet.
As Ego seeks the applause of Self, so humility points with unswerving resolve to Him.
And much of what we request in humility of heart perplexes us in its delivery... for answered prayer rarely comes packaged in the wrapping paper that we designed.
We pray for humility, and we are berated before friend and foe alike.
He knows that conformity into the image of the Lord Jesus is all we need, for in Him is all peace and patience; in Him is gentleness, humility, and grace.
Humility and Grace
It is such a heart that he dresses with humility and grace., not to shatter into despair, but to melt and remake into a heart like unto His heart.
but it is a heart prepared to be broken and crushed by Him – a heart that kneels in deep humility before the cross of his Saviour.
Patience : for love suffers long.Kindness : for love is kind.Generosity : for love envieth not.Humility : for love vaunteth not itself and is not puffed up.Courtesy : for love does not behave itself unseemly.Unselfishness : for love seeketh not her own.Good temper : for love is not easily provoked.Guilelessness : for love thinks no evil.Sincerity : for love rejoices not in iniquity but rejoices in the truth.
Consider His Humility
Consider His generosity, for we read in 2 Corinthians 3:5 that: “He gave Himself a ransom for all, or He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him”.
Our personal attraction and intellectual prowess are of no consequence. Our intrinsic strength and tutored training are of no account to God. Our innate charisma and magnetic allure is petty insignificance to Him. Our inherent talents and engaging disposition have no value. Our instinctive wisdom and intuitive capabilities are meaningless vomit. Until we finally see ourselves through His eyes, we live in an illusion. Until the Spirit strips us naked, we remain deluded – even in our perceived ‘humility’.
as well as all the evil – as well as every last, lingering, little, lustful leaning... Until we stop relying on our natural wit and natural wisdom, and see it for what it is… Until we can stop pretending and face the truth and seek the Spirit's surgical sword... Until we look deep into the mirror of our own heart and acknowledge our mask of illusion – Until then, we will remain deluded either in pride of position or in false humility of heart!
Theirs was no enviable position and yet they were a group of faithful watchers, who in humility of heart and faithful obedience to their calling saw God’s glory.
Bedrock of Glory
Christ in His humility, touched the bedrock of what is valued by God. Jesus in His poverty, exemplifies the foundational load-stone on which to build. But too often we are flattered by the foolish fluff and flitter of this fading world – wooed by its temptresses and enticed by its fatal attractions.
Timely Word
To lovingly receive a timely word from a friend is wise indeed. To graciously accept a friends’ counsel demonstrates humility of spirit:- for as iron sharpeneth iron, so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
Humility of Heart
In Hebrews the words ‘chastening’ and ‘child-training’ have deep roots.. ‘Chastening’ and ‘child-training’ have roots – deep in HUMILITY. Humility of heart is the Grace that graces all graces when chastening is concerned.
What is Humility?
Humility requires a Teachable Spirit.
Humility is born from the Supreme Good – LOVE. Humility is the Garment of Grace. Humility is the Adornment of the Heart. Humility requires us to submit to the Spirit to search out our Secret Sins.
Godly HumilityHumility begins with a sense of subordination. Humility points away from Self to Christ. Humility does not feel it’s his right to have better treatment than others. Humility asserts truth and does not to bolster ego.
Humility puts the interest of others first.
Humility does not control or seek to triumphs in debate.
Humility lives as service to Christ and love to the adversary.
Humility knows it is dependent upon grace for all knowing and believing.
Our Worthy Example
Humility knows it is fallible.
Humility considers constructive criticism and learns from it.
Humility also knows that God has made provision for human conviction, and that He calls us to persuade others.
It’s a breaking, grinding, painful, and lonely pathway – often over years, even decades, until in humility of spirit we nail every semblance of self to the Cross.
Humility of Heart
The greatest prophet born of woman declared his unworthiness before the Lord: “I am not worthy to unloose His shoe. He Who comes after me is preferred before me”.
John 1:27 This same humility of spirit marked John’s entire earthly ministry, for it was John who said, He must increase, and I must decrease.
This humbleness of heart is what is sorely needed today, in each of our lives, Like John we should, in humility of heart, cry, “I am nothing and He is everything.”
Sacrifice and Sovereign
The Lamb first came in great humility of Spirit as the ultimate Sacrifice. He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so He opened not His mouth.
Don’t ask God to help you in this or to help you sort that out, for He won’t – but when you come to Him in humility and helplessness, He’ll move heaven for you.
Humility..Humility of heart.Humility – the most difficult to acquire..– yet humility is the characteristic I so desire in all My children. For I AM humble of heart and I AM lowly of spirit.
You will share in My Humility– My patience– My courage– My strength– My hope– My joy– My love
Meaning of Poverty
‘Poor in spirit’ does not mean lacking in earthly conditions or worldly wealth, for a destitute man may display much pride – an affluent one humility of heart.
Humility is not thinking meanly of oneself nor is it berating oneself in front of others – indeed this can often lead to inverted pride – as others counter your self-reproach!
But humility of heart involves a dying to self and a living to Christ…
Gentility of Heart
Humility is it holding one's talents, gifts, aptitudes, or artistry as little or no account, but it is letting Him work through us, to His praise and glory.
and we are to put self of the altar of sacrifice by saying, ‘not my will but Thine be done.’ Oh yes, humility is a gentility of spirit, which bows reverently before the Lord.
Christ’s Humility
Only once did Jesus refer to His own deep humility of heart and poverty of spirit, when He said: “I am meek and lowly in heart” Matt.11:29 But throughout His earthly journey, in action and attitude, humility streamed forth.
Christ’s Beatitude
Humility of heart and poverty of spirit is the first of all Christ’s beatitudes.
Poverty of spirit and humility of heart is the first grace proclaimed in His sermon, and one by one humility bubbles and streams through each subsequent blessing – as beatitude by beatitude, you can trace this thread of Godly grace: “Blessed are they that mourn…” “Blessed are the meek …” “Blessed are pure in heart..” Blessed are they that mourn... “Blessed are those that hunger after His righteousness ..”
Humble Yourself
And throughout Scripture, it is the meek and humble that delight the heart of God… for pride is always brought low, before humility is lifted high.
True Humility
Poverty of spirit and humility of heart is a key that opens the gate to God’s grace. Poverty of spirit and humility of heart is what God seeks in each of His own.
Spurgeon reminds us: True humility is a flower which will adorn any garden.
Men and women who are prepared to cry out in humility, Lord here am I. Servant’s who are taken to an end of themselves so that Christ becomes all in all.
We are to let the love of the Lord Jesus be seen in us. We are to let the Spirit of exhortation work through us for the benefit of others. And always it is to be carried out in the spirit of humility.
When, however, you and I are prepared, in simple humility, to make the fact of our death with Christ our daily basis of life and service, there is nothing that can prevent the uprising and outflow of new life, and meet the need of thirsty souls around us. -J.C.M.
